BetterPal is built with privacy as our foundation. We believe your personal relationships and contact information should remain exactly that - personal. That's why we've designed BetterPal to store all your data locally on your device, with no cloud storage or server-side data collection.

All BetterPal data is stored locally on your iPhone using secure iOS storage mechanisms (AsyncStorage/Expo SecureStore). Your data is protected by your device's security features, including:
BetterPal does not sync your data anywhere by default. If you choose to use the Mac app, you can turn on Sync with Desktop on your iPhone. Your data is then saved as a single file (the "vault") in a folder you choose, typically in your own iCloud Drive, and Apple syncs that file between your devices. That file is stored under your Apple account and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. BetterPal never receives a copy of it, and we cannot access it.

Our website does not use cookies. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels, or social media plugins.
If you switch between light and dark mode, your browser remembers that choice using local storage on your device. It is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
The website and the Mac app download are hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any web host, Vercel processes technical data that your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page requested, in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use this data to identify or profile visitors. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
All fonts and scripts on this website are served from our own domain. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts or other third-party content networks when you visit.
The interactive example map on our Map View guide loads map images from CARTO, using OpenStreetMap data. To show the map, your browser sends your IP address and the requested map area to CARTO. See CARTO's Privacy Policy. No other page on this website loads the map.
Links to the App Store, research papers, and other websites take you to services we do not control. Their own privacy policies apply.
BetterPal is rated 4+ on the App Store, but we recommend users be at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Since all data is stored locally and we have no access to it, we cannot determine the age of our users. Parents and guardians should monitor their children's use of the app.
BetterPal can be used worldwide. Since all data is stored locally on your device, there are no international data transfers to our servers (because we don't have servers). Data only leaves your device if you explicitly export it or turn on Sync with Desktop, in which case it goes to your own iCloud Drive.
